Judges may subdivide classes only with approval of the Judging Chairman.  Plants, flowers or exhibits which are mis-entered may be disqualified.

Upon approval by the Judging Chairman, a special rosette or trophy shall be presented.

17.  All plants and cut flowers in competition must be accurately and individually labeled, including previous awards, e.g., Blc. Norman's Bay ‘Lucille’ SM/SFOS, FCC/AOS.  Mislabeled entries may be disqualified by the judges.

18.  Special Definitions:  for the purposes of this schedule and for Show Judging the following definitions will apply:

Cattleya - unless otherwise noted, includes only Cattleya, Laelia, Brassavola, Rhyncholaelia, and Sophronitis or combinations of these genera

Cattleya and Allied Genera - is intended to include a wider range of related genera.

Phalaenopsis - unless otherwise noted, includes Doritaenopsis and Phalaenopsis.

Seedling blooming for the first time - unless otherwise specified, is a plant grown from seed and flowering for the first time, not a meristem/mericlone flowering for the first time.

Single Genus Exhibit - space exhibit displaying plants limited to single genus, except that a “Phalaenopsis” exhibit may include Doritaenopsis, a “Paphiopedilum” exhibit may include Phragmepedium and a “Vanda” exhibit may include Ascocendas or other Vandaceous plants.

Hobbyist - one who grows his/her own plants for pleasure, not monetary gain.

Open Class Exhibitor - any individual or firm. May be hobbyist or commercial.

Variety - as applied to judging of exhibits in the Show shall be both as numbers of different genera, or in the case of “Single Genus Exhibits” variety shall be variation in color, size, form, etc. within one or a few genera.

19.  Foliage plants, moss and the like may supplement any exhibit, but no artificial or dyed plant materials of any kind may be used in any exhibit.  Foliage plants must not have conspicuous or colorful flowers or berries.

20.  All classes refer to established flowering plants unless specifically listed as “Cut Flowers”.  South Florida Orchid Society, in the interest of education and conservation, discourages the display of any wild collected orchid plants and instead encourages use of artificially propagated species in exhibits.

21.  Open Class exhibitors displaying miniature orchids may enter a Wardian Case display. The Wardian Case must of adequate size and contain sufficient quantity of blooming orchid plants to be in keeping with the general quality level of other displays at the Show.

22.  Open Class space exhibitors are encouraged to exhibit additional plants in the individual entry area.  These plants will not be eligible for ribbons but will be entered for all trophies, special awards, SFOS Show Medals and AOS Judging.  Open Class space exhibitors, placing a 200 sq. ft. or larger exhibit in this Show, may be eligible for space in the Sales Mart.  Space in the Sales Mart is by invitation and limited. Requests for Sales Mart space must be placed with the Show Director by October 1, 2008, and a contract for Sales Mart space must be approved by the Board.  The Show Committee reserves the right to disqualify and demand removal of any space exhibit that does not meet the standards of the Show, or which violates any of the Show Rules.  Such disqualification shall automatically cause loss of Sales Mart privileges.

23. Hobby Growers may exhibit groups of five (5) distinct hybrids, species, or color forms from one (1) genus, which shall comprise a single entry in exhibit class 2.6. Each plant must be labeled. The group must be arranged by the exhibitor in a single container for display. The Show Committee will place the group from the Registration Area. This category is intended to educate the public regarding the variety of orchids within a genus or grex and will be judged accordingly.

24. Exhibitors may register any entry for specific consideration for AOS awards. This registration must be made through the Registration Committee between the hours of 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 25, 2009.

25. SFOS Show Medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) will be awarded during show judging by certified SFOS judges.

26. The South Florida Orchid Society, Inc. shall not be responsible for loss or damage of any plants, blooms, containers, or other property belonging to exhibitors or to others providing such property to exhibitors.
